In 2015, members of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists Chicago Chapter, had the vision to host a fundraiser that would help sponsor a scholarship for a Latino journalism student. That same year the first-ever Nuevo Comienzo took place.

It was a huge success and helped put the Chicago chapter back on the map after being dormant for several years.  Four years later, Nuevo Comienzo has become an important networking event and fundraiser for the Chicago Chapter.  Since it’s inception along with the support of other community partners, the NAHJ Chicago Chapter has been able to grant more than $10,000 in scholarships to Latino journalism students in the area.

The now well-established chapter is even stronger and continues working towards their goal of encouraging more Latinos in news.

This year, NAHJ Chicago Chapter is happy to announce that Nuevo Comienzo is on again! It takes place January 23, 2019, from 5:30-8:30 pm at The J.Parker, 1816 N. Clark St.

Please join us and help support our chapter and our students. We ask for a $20 donation, which includes a Tito’s drink and appetizers.

We’re extremely thankful for the ongoing support of the community and the businesses that have donated their time and auction items to make Nuevo Comienzo a successful fundraiser. This year we want to especially thank The J. Parker and Tito’s Vodka for their sponsorship.

Like in previous years, there will be a silent/live auction which includes exclusive items from Chicago sports’ teams, top restaurant gift cards and more.   We’re also excited to announce a pair of tickets for Mariah Carey’s concert on March 11th at the Chicago Theater and a Hilton certificate at their hotel in Cabo San Lucas. Stay tuned for details!
