The Chicago chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists has selected its 2021 scholarship recipient.

Maria Marta Guzman is a bilingual journalist at DePaul University. Her extensive internships, work opportunities and samples make her stand out as the type of journalist we need in newsrooms.

Maria will be awarded $5,000 to help fund her college career, and help NAHJ achieve its goal of getting more Latinos in our newsrooms.

This was all possible thanks to the support of NAHJ Chicago members and sponsors. Our annual ‘Nuevo Comienzo’ fundraiser was pushed back to March 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic. NAHJ Chicago board members didn’t let that stop the fundraiser from happening and opted for virtual mixology and a Loteria night. We raised enough funds to make this year’s scholarship possible.

Thank you for your continued support.
